Lord Mayor Bernhard Matheis was born in Rodalben/Germany in 1955. He completed his first degree in law in 1979 and graduated from Mainz University with his second degree in 1982.

After his studies he served as District Attorney in the law offices of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the course of his professional career he also served as judge in criminal and civil matters in the cities of Landau and Kaiserslautern and received a Doctor’s Degree in Law from the University of Mainz in 1991.

In 1994 he was elected to the office of Mayor of the District Pirmasens-Land and after almost 5 years in that position, he became 1 st Mayor of the City of Pirmasens on October 1, 1999.

In September 2002 he was elected as Lord Mayor of the City of Pirmasens. He has been in office since May 1, 2003.

Lord Mayor Matheis is responsible for economic development, culture, sports and tourism, city planning and marketing, legal office, accounting office, main administration and personnel office as well as for the Public Utility company.
