Hans Benner, who was born in 1949 in Herborn-Seelbach, is the Mayor of the town of Herborn in the district Lahn-Dill (Hessen) since 2001. Until his term of office as a full-time Mayor, he worked from 1965 until 2001 in the sectors of IT (information technology), Controlling, Finances and PPS Systems (production planning and control systems). Educated and trained as a Wholesale and Foreign Trade Merchant, he graduated as a Master of Business Management (CCI).

In the local government politics, Mr. Benner is participating actively since the year 1971. He started as a representative for his home location Herborn-Seelbach , and after the district reform in 1977 furtheron as a member of the city assembly in Herborn, the town council, municipal councillor and first councillor of the town of Herborn. Since 2006, he also belongs to the County Council.
Since the time of his engagement as Mayor, he also has been a member and Chairman in several Supervisory Boards, Advisory Boards and Associations.

On a supra-regional level, Mr. Benner is engaged as a member of the Main Comittee of the Association of Towns and Municipalities of Hesse, in the European Committee of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities, as well as the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR).
