Hartmut Bäumer was born in Siegen/Westphalia in 1948. He is a lawyer and lives in Berlin. He studied law and administration in Tübingen, Frankfurt a.M. and Paris at the ENA. He worked as a lawyer in Frankfurt a.M. and later as a judge at the labour court. This was followed by professional positions as the first spokesperson of the Green faction in the Bavarian Parliament 1986-1990 and as “Regierungspräsident” (district governer) in Giessen/Hessen, 1991-1999. From 2000 to 2009, he was managing partner of the consultancy "BRIDGES, Public Affairs and Management" and thereafter honorary managing director of Verbraucherzentrale Berlin for almost a year. Most recently, from 2011 until his retirement in 2014, he worked as “Ministerialdirektor” (Director General) at the State Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure –Baden Württemberg - in Stuttgart.
