Manfred Görtemaker is Professor of Modern History at the University of Potsdam, where he was also Vice President for Academic Affairs in 1993-94 and Chairman of the Senate from 2001 until 2004. Previously, he taught political science and modern history at the Free University Berlin and in the Overseas Studies Program of Stanford University. He was a John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow at Harvard University in 1980-81, and Krupp Foundation Senior Associate at the Institute for East-West Security Studies in New York in 1989-90. In addition, he spent terms as Visiting Professor at Duke University, at Dartmouth College, and at the University of Bologna, and was Visiting Fellow at St Antony’s College, Oxford.
