Sabine Smentek

State Secretary for IT, Senate Department for the Interior and Sports Berlin


Sabine Smentek has been Permanent Secretary for Information and Communications Technology at Berlin’s Senate Department for the Interior and Sport since December 2016.
In 1995, after training as a bank clerk and obtaining a degree in business management, Sabine Smentek embarked on a career as a business and organizational consultant with a focus on public administration and administrative modernization. In 2001, she founded her own business, providing consultancy services to Berlin’s borough administrations and Senate Departments with regard to organizational projects that often had an ICT component. She was the project manager for public administration reform projects while also offering consultancy services for new entrepreneurs as well as for floundering small businesses. From January 2014 to October 2016, Sabine Smentek was Borough Councilor for Youth, Schools, Sports, and Facility Management in Berlin’s Mitte borough, which also included responsibility for the borough’s ICT.
Her professional experience and her large, stable network have given her the necessary breadth of perspectives and skills needed to implement Berlin’s e-government act and modernize Berlin’s administration.
